Maritime Moniker

The Endeavour name is taken from the sailing ship that transported legendary 18th century British explorer Captain James Cook on voyages to the South Pacific.

A replica of the vessel was built in Australia and is considered one of the world's most accurate maritime reproductions. In October 1996, the craft began a world voyage that lasted four years and commemorated the many journeys taken by Captain Cook and his crews. The city of Whitby, North Yorkshire in the United Kingdom, where the original ship was built in 1764, served as home port for the ship.

The replica was often the centerpiece of re-enactments of maritime history and served as the inspiration for a series of watercolor paintings by local artist John Freeman. His detailed studies of the famous ship have been featured in the company's annual reports and hang in offices in Houston, London and Oslo. Today, the replica of the Endeavour ship is on display at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Darling Harbor in Sydney.
